Priced at €8.5 million, the last property on our tour is a romantic French-style mansion adorned with gorgeous formal gardens in the Portalegre area of Portugal. Built in 1887 and known as "The Mistress Palace" as it was once inhabited by the mistress of a Spanish monarch, the eight-bedroom building flaunts elegant interiors filled with period details, but also a five-acre garden with swimming pool and spectacular water features — the work of landscape architect Jean-Claude Nicholas Forestier, who created the gardens surrounding the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
